Designing improved print inserts for a premium tuxedo rental experience

JC Penney — Delivery Collateral

In early 2017, Xedo.com partnered with JC Penney to offer tuxedo rentals directly to customers via their website. Customers could select try-on and rental outfits which were then delivered straight to their chosen address.

Deliveries arrived in sturdy cardboard boxes and included printed inserts containing important information about the try-on or rental process. Rather than simply rebranding the existing Xedo inserts with JC Penney’s branding, we saw an opportunity to enhance the customer experience by redesigning the inserts with clearer messaging and a fresh, modern look.

My role: Redesigning print collateral to support customer communication

I led the design of new delivery inserts that:

Key changes included:

  • Improved clarity and accessibility of rental and try-on instructions
  • Incorporated JC Penney’s branding alongside Xedo’s for a cohesive partnership feel
  • Used hierarchy and typography to highlight key information and next steps
  • Created layouts optimised for print and easy inclusion in the delivery packaging

The redesigned inserts contributed to a smoother customer journey, reducing confusion and improving satisfaction during the crucial delivery and try-on stages.
